Does my audio ever leave my Mac?
No. Wisprcat records only while you hold the hotkey, transcribes locally with whisper.cpp on Apple Silicon, and discards the audio. There are no accounts, no API keys, and no telemetry. The only network request the app makes is a one-time download of the open-source speech model on first launch.
What are the requirements?
macOS 14 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported. If you buy it for an unsupported machine, we refund immediately.
Is it a subscription?
No. Wisprcat is $29 once. Your license is lifetime and updates are free. No account is created and there is nothing to cancel.
Why does macOS show a warning on first open?
Current builds are not yet Apple-notarized, so the first launch takes a one-time approval in System Settings (Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway). The download page walks you through it in under a minute. A notarized build ships to all customers free as an update.
How many Macs can I use it on?
The license is per person, not per machine. Install it on every Mac you personally use. Teams should buy one license per user.
What permissions does it need?
Microphone, so it can hear you while the hotkey is held. Accessibility is optional and only needed if you want automatic paste; without it, Wisprcat leaves the transcript on your clipboard.
What languages does it support?
Wisprcat is optimized for fast, accurate English dictation using whisper.cpp's English models. Other languages are on the roadmap.
How do I get the app after paying?
